Rosatom's unit, YLB sign $600 mln deal to produce lithium in Bolivia

LA PAZ, Jun 29 (PRIME) -- Uranium One Group, Russian nuclear power corporation Rosatom’s foreign arm, has signed a U.S. $600 million framework agreement with Bolivia's Yacimientos de Litio de Bolivia (YLB) to build a facility to produce lithium carbonate, Rosatom said in a statement on Thursday.

"The joint Russian-Bolivian project will allow Bolivia, a state with the richest lithium reserves in the world, to establish a full-scale production chain, from production of raw lithium to making a market product," Rosatom said.

First Deputy CEO Kirill Komarov said as cited in the statement that under the project, Rosatom’s first large-scale lithium production abroad, a plant with a capacity of 25,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate per year and with a possibility to raise the capacity, will be built.
